About Maxie

Published by maxiegirl

I’m over 50.  That’s not a surprise.  I am a writer to the bone, but retired, which means I have more time to write.  I love to do watercolors and I’ll post some on the site now and then.  My husband and I square dance several times a week, most weeks.

If writing is for my mind, music is for my soul, and exercise is for my body.  (My heart belongs to my husband and kids.)

If you think 50 is unbearably old, then we may talk about things beyond your understanding.  Just hang in there and eventually you’ll catch on.

I’m a published writer.  I have a big, lovable Norwegian Elkhound named Jake.  Our three daughters are grown.  We have seven grandchildren:  four young women and three males of varying ages.  I’m hoping they’ll stop by the blog and say Hi.

I choose to write about women over 50 because it’s an exciting time in my life.  I have never in my life enjoyed as much freedom.  I have a husband who loves me, but doesn’t need to own me.  I can write until midnight and not have to worry about getting up in the morning.  I can square dance every day of the week, or only two or three times a week, depending on how I feel about it.  I am comfortable with myself and my life at the moment.

I’m interested in hearing about the rest of you.  Who are you and where do you come from?  In this blog I hope to explore some things you can do to make your own life more satisfying.

Keep checking back.  I’ve got a lot on my mind.

I am over 50 also and work from home. I have four kids and my hubby has three kids. We have grand kids and he has great grand kids too. Three dogs in the house plus two cats. My oldest daughter lives with us plus my oldest son and his wife are living with us for a while. My house is a madhouse.

I have only targeted the computer room because it’s the worst. The rest of the house could use it too.

Meanwhile, my husband is working on the yard which is probably too much for him, but he loves the work. It is never finished either.

    Thanks for the comment.

Dear Marilynne - I work for the Corps of Engineers and a project I am working on is repair of the Marysville levee. I was “googling” and came upon your blog about the Marysville evacuation. It was a wonderful story. That must have been the 1955 flood. I got tears in my eyes reading about how the people gathered gifts from the neighbors to give to you when you were in the evacuation center and how you distributed items from your church. I joined the Mormon Church some time back and we also distribute humanitarian supplies so I have a little idea of what you were doing and how much the people needed the items.

    God bless you, Ted Werner

Marilynn….. that’s a beautifully musical name…..and square dance with such a melodious lady would be surely a pleasure for your husband.

And hey, your blog’s cool, I just read a few rando posts, pretty hilarious one being wherein you lost your all cards and phone records in Melbourne…. sorry can’t laughing, no offence though. Jut wondering, does life show you such weird times too ,at such an age.

But as far you is concerned, I gather, for you age is no bar. I am presently 19 ( nineteen) , come from a very orthodox, highly conservative background of India….. we are such girls, that we are questioned our integrity just for a mere kiss from a guy !! And hey, whatare smooches…..lol ! You would get a feel of all this in my blog.

And , your blog’s really lively and so much fun to read. I wish I to be so full of life like you when a too around your age.

    CHEERS :)

Yes, I’ve learned to be ageless as I grow older. Life is about living it and you can’t always be hemmed in by what is expected of you at a certain age.

I’ll tell you that I didn’t kiss a lot of guys when I was young, but when I found the guy I wanted to kiss all the time, I married him.

Nineteen is a nice age. It would seem you are carefully nurtured at this point. Don’t fight it too much. It gives you a bit of certainty in this age.

    I’ll check out your blog.

Been reading your posts too. Very enjoyable and easy reading too.

I will be 51 in July and have always enjoyed writing. I have been in transportation for many years and decided to start posting stories on my trucking adventures and other behind the wheel stories. I try to write so the reader feels like they are riding along and get a feel of the excitement or other happenings of the trip.

Am so glad to know we can have so much fun with computers and make many friends doing our writing. This is also my way of relaxing and getting away from everyone and everything!
